Documenting the rehearsal of MILK. A fashion performance by artist Amy Ollett, featuring dancers Federica and Danielle.
Taken in 2019 , I’ve looked back at these images during lockdown and wondered when touch like this will be allowed again…
Amy did a really fabulous interview with Verse Magazine about this collection which you can read here

Weds 20 May 2020.
Sleep to dream.
It’s lockdown. Like many people I’ve been wondering how to the way the world has changed will effect how we work. How I work. I saw someone describe these current times as like being in a snow globe. As the shaking stops or at least begins to feel less vicious, I’m feeling ready to think about what could be next.
Of course we don’t know…
I’m looking back at all the work I have been lucky enough to make so far. As an ex blogger (before everyone blogged and in 2010 hardly anyone knew what a blog was and when you told them, the idea of throwing words out in to the internet which might be read by no-one was an odd concept. How times have changed. How lots has changed.
So ten years on I may now use the the word ‘journal’ instead of ‘blog’ but either way a new regular post (feature?) will be the Image of the week, possibly new work, possibly work that’s been made a while. We will see how it develops.

I’m really excited to be have been interviewed by Aileen Yu for a series about working in fashion on the FashionUnited platform.
Work in fashion: A day in the life of a freelance fashion photographer
As someone who has read this fashion industry online bible for years it’s a real honour to be able to talk about my work in a feature.
See the interview on FashionUnited. HUGE thanks to Aileen for this opportunity.

The British Journal of Photography Presents Portrait of Britain 2019.
I’m delighted to have my portrait of Norwich Blogger and stylist Karen James Welton (aka The Fabulous Miss K) selected to be part of the British Journal of Photography’s Portrait of Britain 2019. Selected as a winning image from thousands of entries, Karens portrait joins an exhibition of 100 Portraits which is now live on public screens across the country until the end of September. Portrait of Britain is described as the UK’s biggest exhibition of portraiture.
The work is being exhibited across JCDecaux’s nationwide screens, appearing in public places throughout the UK including highstreets, bus stops, rail stations, shopping centres and airports. The 100 winning images join a further 100 shortlisted images to create a Portrait of Britain Vol 2 photobook, published by Hoxton Mini Press and is available direct form the publisher or via Amazon.
You can read a few thoughts behind this image and some of the other winning/short listed images over on The Shutterhub Blog If you do see this image on the screens I’d love it if you could take a picture and send it to me. The full exhibition is also online if you’d like a look through all the winning and shortlisted entries.
I also had work selected to be in Portrait of Britain 2017, which you can take a look at here.
Thanks to Karen for this portrait session. I was testing out some ideas for what I hope will lead to a new project. More images from this photoshoot to come. Karen is represented by Crumb Agency.

I have an image of Eto Badu being exhibited at The Print Space London, organised by Photographers United. I was delighted to have work selected and big thank you to the organisers for the brilliant opening night. The image is part of my ‘This is Not Nostalgia?’ project which uses secondhand and vintage fashion to create ‘fashion’ imagery without the usual buy buy buy all the new things consumption element. Along with photography and art direction I also styled this shoot myself using secondhand and vintage fashion. This is something which is very important to me and something I’ve been using within my work for several years now.
Head over to my instagram to see more images from the opening night, it runs until 15/1 if you can make a visit.

Designers Vin + Omi sprinkle their runway shows with interesting looking models and celebrities - which adds a real diversity to the status quo of what a model look stereotypically is. Delighted to get to photograph Debbie Harry at this show.
I’ve shot a fair bit of runway but I’ve realised that telling the story from a more documentary and observational way is where it’s at for me.

I first saw Rhys Ellis’s work at GFW16. Having shot his final collection on the runway we stayed in touch and it was great to hear from Rhys that just a year later (pretty inspiring achievement there) that he was debuting at LFW with a presentation in collaboration with Oliver Thomas Lipp. As my heart belongs more and more to documenting the these fashion events I was keen to get behind the scenes and photograph the show preparation. I feel this way I can show the story of the presentation, the energy and atmosphere which goes in to creating an event like this.
This fashion event work I’m making is building into a body of work which currently has the working title ‘Documenting Fashion’. Fashion should not be seen for one season only and neither should the visual work created from it and so I believe it’s important to allow this work to sit in a space of it’s own. It should exist beyond a hard drive or a folder of negatives. I’m approaching this as a longterm project which may last years…

COMMISSIONED: PRODUCT/LIFESTYLE SHOOT FOR DESIGNER CAROL LAKE
Following in from a previous shoot for Carol Lake, I was asked to photograph some of the designers scarf designs in a relaxed lifestyle type shoot. Images were shot with in Carol’s home which is also her studio space studio. A lovely gentle shoot, producing some quiet images for a brand which is bold yet still somehow delicate too.

It’s always great to visit the home of designer and see how they work and how their homes are influenced by their style so it was great to get a commission to visit designer and artist Carol Lake to document her work for her new website launch.
An internationally established designer/maker Carol specialises in botanicals, drawing inspiration from the seasons and has worked with brands including Ted Baker and Lulu Guinness. Her studio is also a shop and her home. All housed in a beautiful old shop on an historical street in Norwich. The shop front itself is used a store for Carols designs and homewares which all sit nestled on shelves surrounded by period busts, mannequins and dolls heads. It was lovely to be left to wonder and photograph things and moments as they caught my eye. If you love botanicals and beautiful floral prints Carol’s work is well worth a look.

Graduate Fashion Week (GFW) was a VERY busy one. As well as working the week from backstage I was also a finalist in the GFW Fashion Photographer award which involved a day on the Norwich University of the Arts (NUA) stand waiting for the judges to come and chat/look through my portfolio PLUS I had also planned to watch a couple of shows during the week. I always like to try and watch a couple of shows at events, it’s good to try and see an event from all angles and sometimes putting the camera down just for a little while can be just as inspiring as watching the garments through the lens.
One show I planned to watch was my own - NUA , but I popped backstage to take a few images before hand. Below is the work of Mary Sinclair, a super talented graduate who is also the most phenomenal illustrator, check her out! GFW18 is already on my mind and I’m planning to document next years NUA show fully from behind the scenes so watch this space…

A very quick peak from backstage at Graduate Fashion Week 2017. A bit of a busy one because as well as photographing the event I was also nominated for the Fashion Photography Award (you can read about that here) This is one of my favourite events to photograph. Before I began working it, I had a few years of going to watch the shows and see the latest work of the next wave of fashion graduates. Everything about it just feels special - there’s a real sense of energy as hundreds of graduates gather to to share the fruits of their labour with industry and attendees. There’s really such a great spirit.
Images below shot whilst working for The Glass Pineapple
I’ll share more as soon as I can on my blog and on my instgram so stay tuned. You can also keep and eye on The Glass Pineapple website to see more of my work as I was there shooting for them. They are great at sharing on their IG to so there’s lots of my images around already with lot more to come.

GRADUATE FASHION WEEK 2017- BEING SHORTLISTED FOR THE FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD
June has been a busy month, not only was I working at Graduate Fashion Week and getting ready for the exhibitions in London and Norwich I was also shortlisted for the Graduate Fashion Week 2017 Photography Award. Being nominated by Norwich University of the Arts was amazing and to then get the email about being shortlisted to the final ten was a dream! It was a great opportunity to meet with the judges and chat over my work, look over my portfolio and discuss ideas for future projects and get some advice and direction for my work from industry experts.
In particular in was a chance to share my final project about secondhand fashion; the work that had first got me nominated and then through to this final stage. How consumerism and sustainability are both important features in my work and how through imagery we can have ti dialogue that dressing in vintage doesn’t need to mean you’re living a retro life? It also gave me a chance to discuss my approach to image making. Not just the clothes or the ‘fashion’ but the choices of people I cast to make the pictures and what inspires me to create.
I’ll share some images taken backstage at GFW17 is a separate post, it was an excellent year and I’ve been truly inspired to be a finalist in such a huge event with photography graduates from all over the country. A huge thanks to Norwich University of the Arts and the Graduate Fashion Week team.
