GFW17 - Shortlisted for Fashion Photography Award

GRADUATE FASHION WEEK 2017- BEING SHORTLISTED FOR THE FASHION PHOTOGRAPHY AWARD

June has been a busy month, not only was I working at Graduate Fashion Week and getting ready for the exhibitions in London and Norwich I was also shortlisted for the Graduate Fashion Week 2017 Photography Award. Being nominated by Norwich University of the Arts was amazing and to then get the email about being shortlisted to the final ten was a dream! It was a great opportunity to meet with the judges and chat over my work, look over my portfolio and discuss ideas for future projects and get some advice and direction for my work from industry experts.

In particular in was a chance to share my final project about secondhand fashion; the work that had first got me nominated and then through to this final stage. How consumerism and sustainability are both important features in my work and how through imagery we can have ti dialogue that dressing in vintage doesn’t need to mean you’re living a retro life? It also gave me a chance to discuss my approach to image making. Not just the clothes or the ‘fashion’ but the choices of people I cast to make the pictures and what inspires me to create.

I’ll share some images taken backstage at GFW17 is a separate post, it was an excellent year and I’ve been truly inspired to be a finalist in such a huge event with photography graduates from all over the country. A huge thanks to Norwich University of the Arts and the Graduate Fashion Week team.

Image taken backstage at the Malan Breton Show, Fashion Scout London which is part of my current printed portfolio.  Shot for The Glass Pineapple.
